Scope of accommodations

Accommodation requests may relate to registration, communications, course materials, instructional activities, webinar technology, an on-site facility, project work, the HACCP plan presentation, or application of the assessment rubric.

The Institute does not discriminate on the basis of disability or another legally protected characteristic. An accommodation may change how a learner accesses or demonstrates the program requirements, but it will not eliminate an intended learning outcome, waive a certificate requisite, or lower the approved passing standard.

How to request an accommodation

1. Contact the Technical Director at [email protected] or 619-940-8563. Requests may be written, electronic, or oral.
2. Describe the access barrier and the accommodation requested. The Institute may ask for limited additional information needed to evaluate effectiveness and feasibility.
3. Submit the request as early as practical—preferably at least ten business days before a scheduled class—so materials, technology, travel, or facility arrangements can be made. Later requests will still be considered.
4. The Technical Director will discuss options with the learner, document the decision, coordinate implementation, and communicate any learner responsibilities.

Confidentiality and fairness

Accommodation information is treated as confidential and shared only with personnel who need it to evaluate or implement the accommodation, or as otherwise permitted by the Privacy & Confidentiality notice. Requesting an accommodation will not result in retaliation or an adverse certificate decision.

Website accessibility

The Institute aims to provide website and program information that is perceivable, operable, understandable, and compatible with commonly used assistive technologies. To report an access problem, identify the page or material, the barrier encountered, and the format or assistance that would be useful.
