Certificate Use & Verification

How certificate holders and stakeholders may verify and accurately represent completion of the Institute’s Basic HACCP Certificate Program.

Certificate issuance and term

The Institute issues a Basic HACCP certificate only after controlled records verify that the identified learner completed at least 15 instructor-led hours, all eight required activities, an industry-specific HACCP plan and presentation, and the current 85% rubric standard.

The certificate is individual, nontransferable, issued electronically and may be printed. Its term is five years. There is no continuing-education or surveillance requirement during that term.

Request certificate verification

  1. Email [email protected] with “Basic HACCP Certificate Verification” in the subject line.
  2. Provide the certificate holder’s name as shown on the certificate, certificate number, issue date or valid-until date, and your name, organization, and reason for the request.
  3. The Institute may request additional identifying information or authorization when needed to protect confidential learner records.
  4. A verification response will be limited to the information reasonably necessary to confirm whether the supplied certificate record is valid and matches controlled records.

Permitted statements and uses

A certificate holder may:

  • State that the individual successfully completed the Institute of Food Safety, Health & Hygiene, Inc. Basic HACCP Certificate Program.
  • State that the individual holds a current certificate of completion during its stated term.
  • Provide an unaltered copy to an employer, customer, auditor, or regulator.

Prohibited claims and misuse

A certificate holder may not:

  • Claim to be certified, licensed, registered, or accredited by the Institute, ANAB, ASTM, or the International HACCP Alliance solely because of program completion.
  • Create or use a post-nominal title, designation, or acronym based on the certificate.
  • Alter, transfer, sell, duplicate deceptively, or permit another person to use the certificate.
  • Use the Institute logo, ANAB accreditation symbol, or another program mark separately from the unaltered certificate.
  • Imply that the certificate approves an employer, facility, product, process, regulatory status, or HACCP plan.
  • Make claims of workplace competence or endorsement beyond the program’s published purpose, scope, and learning outcomes.

Certificate program—not personnel certification: ANAB accreditation applies to the Institute’s Basic HACCP Certificate Program. It does not make a learner “ANAB certified” or “ASTM certified.”

Corrections, replacement and reissue

A holder may request correction of an administrative error or replacement of a lost certificate by contacting the Institute. The Institute verifies the request against controlled records and preserves the original issue and valid-until dates unless a documented correction requires otherwise. A reissued certificate does not extend the five-year term.

Invalid or improperly issued certificates

The Institute may mark a certificate record invalid when evidence shows it was issued through administrative error, false identity, fraud, material misrepresentation, or a failure of the controlled issuance process. This is not revocation for failure to complete continuing education; the Basic HACCP certificate has no ongoing maintenance requirement during its term.
